To play organised club polo (club chukkas and matches), the governing body of polo, The Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA), requires that all players be registered with the HPA each season, and in order to do so, register through a HPA registered Polo Club.
Silver Leys members enjoy the exclusive use of the polo club and its grounds. The club is open to members between April and the end of September.
Members may stick and ball, school and exercise their ponies within the club grounds at any time seven days a week.
Club chukkas take place throughout the six summer months on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and non-tournament weekends. All club members are encouraged to participate in chukkas, which are included in the membership fees.
The club has an active tournament calendar, and is set up to encourage polo beginners to progress quickly from their first lessons to chukkas and into their first tournament.
Tournaments are twice a month over both Saturday and Sunday, and are usually -6 to 0 and 0 to 2 goal games. More than half the teams are made up of club members many of whom play all 10 of the seasons tournaments. Members can either team up at the beginning of the season to make a team that they will play with all summer, gaining the valuable experience of how to play together, or simply tell the polo manager they wish to play and he will make up a team of other singles for the weekend.
